It is curious how in the English language lightness and brightness 

can be expressed with the same word

E' curioso come nella lingua inglese leggerezza e luminosità 

si possano esprimere con la stessa parola

Sunday garden - L'Occitane garden

I was immediately enraptured by the images of this garden

Le immagini di questo giardino mi hanno subito rapita

for its simplicity, for his being so authentically anchored to the ground.

Who wouldn't desire to stay a little sitting at this table,

in this corner of absolute peace?

per la sua semplicità, 

per questo suo essere così autenticamente ancorato alla terra.

Chi non desidererebbe stare un po' seduto a questa tavola,

 in questo angolo di pace assoluta?

the plants used are those that I love so much, typical of Provence

but also of some of our rural areas, where aromatic plants, olive trees and lavender

thrive on arid and sunny

le piante utilizzate sono quelle che amo tanto, tipiche della Provenza

ma anche di certe nostre zone rurali, dove piante aromatiche, ulivo e la lavanda

crescono rigogliosi su terreni aridi ed assolati

and won a (deserved) Silver Medal

Fast, snow is falling

The snow falls out fast, I see from the window of my office and, as happens every time, 

I remain fascinated by his performance, and silently I look.
I could stay observing for hours.

 La neve fuori scende veloce, la vedo dalla finestra del mio studio e come accade ogni volta, 

resto affascinata dal suo spettacolo, e muta la osservo.
La potrei osservare per ore.

 This is the part of winter that I love.
This candor, this calm, this unmistakable smell.
I know the snow is coming, sniffing the air.

 

 Questa è la parte dell'inverno che amo.
Questo candore, questa calma, questo odore inconfondibile.
So che la neve sta arrivando annusando l'aria.

Winter is made to dream

I have always struggled to place seasons well.

I always had the feeling that the new year began with September, 

and winter would end with the New Year.

Ho sempre faticato a collocare bene le stagioni.

Ho sempre avuto la sensazione che l'anno nuovo iniziasse con settembre, 

e l'inverno finisse con capodanno.

I always thought that winter is too long. With its short and gray days, stinging cold 

that doesn't seem to ever end.

Ho sempre pensato che l'inverno sia troppo lungo. Con le sue giornate corte e grigie, 

il freddo pungente che sembra non voler terminare mai.

But what time is better to dream than winter?

Ma quale momento è migliore, per sognare, dell'inverno?

I Dream to resist the cold, and the dream brings me to the spring, 

and until the spring ...

Sogno per resistere al freddo, e il sogno mi conduce alla primavera, 

e fino alla primavera...

Sunday garden - Shady gardens

When I started gardening I had a garden in full shade.

I did not want to give up, and I wanted to create a harmonious space.

Quando ho iniziato a fare giardinaggio avevo un giardino in piena ombra.

Non mi volevo arrendere, e desideravo creare uno spazio armonioso.

So I started to read and inform me (I remember a small invaluable guide Royal Horticoltural Society)
and I discovered that, contrary to what I thought, there are endless possibilities
to create a beautiful garden in the shade. Hundreds of suitable plants

Così ho iniziato a leggere ed informarmi (ricordo una piccola preziosissima guida di Royal Horticoltural Society  ed ho scoperto che, diversamente da quel che pensavo, ci sono infinite possibilità per creare un bel giardino in ombra. Centinaia di piante adatte.

Of course, in areas like mine, where there are very elevated thermal excursions, the choice is reduced a lot, but are always plenty of valid and some of great beauty.

Between herbaceous perennials for example hostas

Certo, in zone come la mia, in cui ci sono escursioni termiche moto elevate, la scelta si riduce parecchio, ma ne restano sempre tantissime di valide ed alcune di grande estetica.

Tra le erbacee perenni per esempio le hosta

e hakonechloa macra aureola

a true wonder, does not it?

una vera meraviglia, non trovate?

We can add splashes of color with violets in spring, 

coleus and impatiens from spring to late autumn

and of course our loved hydrangeas

Possiamo aggiungere macchie di colore con violette in primavera, 

coleus e impatiens (fiori di vetro) dalla primavera all'autunno inoltrato

e naturalmente le nostre adorate ortensie.

New year, so many news!

Oh yes dear friends, new year just started and many news in the air!

I am a bit absent from the blog because many projects that were in the air you are beginning to realize, 

and sometimes things run so fast.

Everything seems to stop and suddenly there are accelerations that make your hair and thoughts flutter in the air ... and then who can stop these thoughts anymore?

Eh sì cari amici, anno nuovo appena iniziato e tante novità nell'aria!

Sono un po' assente dal blog perchè tanti progetti che erano in aria si stanno cominciando a realizzare, e le cose a volte corrono così veloci.

Tutto pare fermo ed improvvisamente ci sono delle accelerazioni che ti fanno svolazzare in aria i capelli e i pensieri... e poi chi li ferma più questi pensieri?

 

Whoever follows me for a while know that already since last spring we were rearranging the new home.

What I had not yet mentioned is that the work started again, 

and we started to place another piece of our home.

So new choices, a thousand things to establish, modify, settle, but you want to make? 

I'm going to a party wedding!

Chi mi segue da un po' sa che già dalla scorsa primavera stavamo risistemando la nuova casa.

Quel che non vi avevo ancora detto è che i lavori sono ricominciati, 

e abbiamo iniziato a sistemare un altro pezzo della casa.

Quindi nuove scelte, mille cose da stabilire, modificare, sistemare, ma volete mettere? 

Io ci vado a nozze!

Some news from home

There is always something powerful in building a house

 something that deeply touched, and enhances

C'è sempre qualcosa di potente nella costruzione di una casa

qualcosa che tocca nel profondo, ed esalta

As a child I remained enchanted at the sight of a building, 

with scientific knowledge, was made to implode, 

without affecting anything of what was around

 

Da bambina rimanevo incantata davanti allo spettacolo di un edificio che, 

con sapienza scientifica, veniva fatto implodere, 

senza intaccare nulla di quel che c'era intorno

 Today I look enchanted, together with my little baby boy

feeling tiny little, machines that work instead of our arms,

lifting stones and knead stones and cement

Oggi guardo incantata insieme al mio piccolo omino, 

sentendomi anche io piccola piccola, 

macchinari che lavorano al posto delle nostre braccia, 

sollevano pietre e impastano sassi e cemento

 Works are going on, and the cage of scaffolding that closes the view 

 finally disappeared.

 I lavori della casa procedono, e anche la gabbia di ponteggi che chiudeva la visuale

 finalmente è scomparsa

Uno dei miei desideri di Natale ...

This spring, this space will be filled with jasmine plants and hydrangeas
hostas, violets and gravel...

Questa primavera questo spazio sarà colmo di piante di gelsomino ed ortensie

hoste, violette e ghiaia...
