My Kitchen Before and After

I have always been fascinated to see the transformation of things, change a space.
Today I invite you to see the transformation of my house, from what we found 

when we took it, to how it has become now.

Mi ha sempre affascinato vedere la trasformazione delle cose, cambiare uno spazio.
Oggi vi invito a vedere le trasformazioni della mia casa, da quel che abbiamo trovato quando l'abbiamo presa, a come è diventata ora.

Cari amici oggi vi presento la cucina!

 

Uninhabited for a long time seemed to be the entrance hall of the witches ...  

A wall divided the space to create a microscopic kitchen as it used to be once, 

and it closed the wonder of light, that bringing it down is finally released.

Disabitata da tempo sembrava l'androne delle streghe... Un muro divideva lo spazio per creare un microscopico cucinotto come usava un tempo, e chiudeva la meraviglia di luce 

che abbattendolo si è finalmente liberata.

 I have always lived in homes where the kitchen was a sacrificed space.
Finally we had the chance to create a spacious one.

Ho sempre abitato in case dove la cucina era uno spazio sacrificato.
Finalmente abbiamo avuto la possibilità di crearne una spaziosa.

 

 

 Furnish this kitchen was very complicated, and I will never cease to thank enough the guys employees to the department of Ikea kitchens (saints now!) that with patience and expertise helped me

to compose it despite all the constraints we had.

 Arredare questa cucina è stato molto complicato, e non finirò mai di ringraziare abbastanza i ragazzi addetti al reparto cucine dell'Ikea (santi subito!) che con pazienza e competenza mi hanno aiutata a comporla nonostante tutti i vincoli che avevamo.

 

Non so se capita anche da voi, ma la vita passa tutta dalla cucina a casa nostra! 

Amici che entrano ed escono, compiti, giochi e panni da stirare...

 I do not know if it happens to you, but life goes across the kitchen in our house!  

Friends who come in and out, homework, games, and clothes to be ironed ...

 

And for those who still wonder if it ... 

No, the kitchen has never in these heavenly conditions!!

 E per quelli che ancora se lo domandano... 

No, la cucina non è mai in queste condizioni celestiali!!

Chalk Paint - My experience in painting

I would just like to share with you my personal experience of recovering old furniture and objects.

Premetto che questo non è un post pubblicitario, e che desidero solo condividere con voi la mia personale esperienza di recupero dei vecchi mobili e oggetti.

Some years ago started my passion (and need) to recover old furniture,
or give to unattractive pieces a new chance.

Da alcuni anni è iniziata la  mia passione (oltre che la necessità) di recuperare mobili vecchi, o comunque di donare a pezzi poco attraenti una nuova chance.

 HERE you can see the before and after of my bedside table
HERE the before and after of the great Chippendal drawers.

  In these cases the furniture has been first fully (and painfully) sanded with sandpaper,
and than painted with common satin water enamel.

  In questi casi i mobili sono stati prima interamente (e faticosamente) carteggiati con la carta vetrata, e solo dopo dipinti con normale smalto satinato all'acqua.

  

 Then in the web I discovered the existence of Chalk Paint, and some of its  
Home Made recipes.
A true revolution, since this type of painting was said did not require any sanding.
So I tried Chalk Paint.

and all the things I've learned about it.

Poi nel web ho scoperto l'esistenza della Chalk Paint, e alcune sue ricette Home Made.

Una vera rivoluzione, dato che questo tipo di pittura si diceva non richiedesse alcuna carteggiatura.

Così ho provato la Chalk Paint.

e tutto quel che ho imparato a riguardo.

TRUE! A great revolution! No need to sand the surface (or just a light touch) because the CP actually clings on very smooth surfaces, such as wood treated with transparent glazes.

VERO! Una grande rivoluzione! Nessuna necessità di carteggiare le superfici (o volendo appena una passata leggera) perchè la CP effettivamente aggrappa su superfici anche molto lisce, ad esempio legno trattato con smalti trasparenti.

Last summer I finally wanted to try the original Chalk Paint (Annie Sloan) on some old furniture that I had in inheritance with the house.
The reasons that until that moment I didn't buy it was the quite high cost and that I didn't know I could buy it even here in Italy.

Honestly, I found an excellent product.
Excellent coverage  - two coats are enough, while I needed three coats with my home made CP -, excellent spreadability, huge yield.
Its very huge yeld at the end makes it - in reality - a painting by an average cost.

La scorsa estate infine ho voluto provare la Chalk Paint originale (Annie Sloan) su alcuni vecchi mobili che mi erano arrivati in eredità con la casa.
La ragione per cui non l'avevo ancora acquistata era il suo costo piuttosto alto e il fatto di non sapere che si potesse acquistare anche direttamente qua in Italia.

Onestamente l'ho trovata un prodotto eccellente.
Ottima copertura - due passaggi sono sufficienti, mentre ne ho dovuti fare tre con la mia ricetta home made - ottima stendibilità, enorme resa.
Questa sua resa altissima alla fine la rende quindi - in realtà - una pittura dal costo medio.

Here some items that I painted with ASCP
 Qui alcuni oggetti che ho dipinto con la ASCP

Unlike the Home Made CP, that does not need it, the original CP must be finished with wax
for fixed indelibly .
I used a common transparent wax, which I melted in a water bath and applied with a brush.

A differenza della CP fatta in casa, che non ne ha bisogno, la CP originale per fissarsi indelebilmente deve essere finita con la cera.
Io ho usato una cera trasparente comune, che ho sciolto a bagnomaria e steso a pennello.

   As you can see I also used to cover this applique's brass. If finished with wax not moving any more 
 Come vedete l'ho usata anche per coprire l'ottone di questa applique. Se finita con la cera come la CP richiederebbe, non la muove più nessuno.

NOTICE

The use of wax makes the color a few shades darker than the original, even when dried and absorbed.
So keep this into account when you choose the color to spread: always use a color a few shades lighter than what you want to achieve as an end result.

NOTA IMPORTANTE

L'uso della cera  scurisce di qualche tonalità il colore originario, anche quando asciugata e assorbita.
Quindi tenete conto di questo quando sceglierete il colore da stendere: usate sempre un colore di un paio di tonalità più chiare di quello che volete ottenere come risultato finale.

Our B&B - Room "Roses"

While I was painting this old bed, last summer, I didn't know what would have been its destination. Then it is as if it found her by itself, it was natural for it to finish there in the room "Rose" of our newborn B & B.

Mentre dipingevo questo vecchio letto, la scorsa estate, non sapevo quale sarebbe stata la sua destinazione. Poi è come se l'avesse trovata da sè: era naturale che finisse lì, nella camera "Rose" del nostro appena nato B&B.

  

The bed was left there by the old owner and, along with some other piece that soon I will show, it was right to remain here, in "its" house.

 Il letto ci è stato lasciato dalla vecchia proprietaria e, insieme a qualche altro pezzo che vi mostrerò più avanti, era giusto che rimanesse qua, nella "propria" casa. 

  

 
We called this room "Rose" because it is located on one side of our house where the arches of roses, some very old already existing and others planted by us, inebriate of scents and colors.
Simply I love them!

Abbiamo chiamato questa stanza "Rose", perchè si affaccia su un lato della nostra casa in cui archi di rose, alcune molto vecchie già esistenti e altre piantate da noi, inebriano di profumi e colori.
Semplicemente le adoro!

 

 

Just some sunshine and it seems to me already spring!

Today I want to show you some picture of our baby boy bedroom.

An old bed of wrought iron found at a thrift store months ago,

has been waiting to be placed in its final destination.

Oggi vi mostro qualche foto della cameretta del nostro piccolino. 

Un vecchio letto di ferro battuto trovato in un negozio dell'usato mesi fa, 

aspettava da tempo di essere collocato nella sua destinazione finale.

 

And a dream catcher a little 'twist (the first!) made from pieces of an old sheet  

and wonderful feathers has finally found a space 

beside the bed of our little one.

E un acchiappasogni un po' sghembo (il primo!)

 fatto con pezzetti di un vecchio lenzuolo e piume meravigliose

ha finalmente trovato anche lui un suo spazio, accanto al letto del nostro piccolino. 

Friends from which it is im-pos-si-ble to separate...
Amici da cui è im-pos-si-bi-le separarsi...

I hope it will have great work to do, so many dreams to grab ...
Spero che ne avrà di lavoro da fare, tanti sogni da acchiappare...
