Even the simplest garden can achieve more character 

only adding a special point of interest.

This beautiful lemon in a pot gives the garden a WOW factor. True?

Aggiungere un punto di interesse speciale può dare carattere anche al più semplice dei giardini.

Cicadas and tomatoes

If I think of summer I think of the song of cicadas, before anything else.

Even before the lazy lapping of the waves of the sea calm.

Cicadas, that accompany these hot days

and our evening dinners in the garden, as silent as we were in the countryside, 

if it were not for them.

Se penso all'estate mi viene in mente il canto delle cicale, prima di ogni altra cosa.

Ancora prima dello sciabordio pigro delle onde del nostro mare calmo.

Le cicale che accompagnano questi giorni caldi

e le nostre sere di cene in giardino, silenziose come fossimo in piena campagna, 

se non fosse per loro.

 

Summer is our red tomatoes, small as his little hands who pick up them.

Every morning Riccardo visit our tomato plants, eager to see if they are finally turning red, 

and puts them in his little basket. 

L'estate sono i nostri pomodori rossi, piccoli come le sue manine che li raccolgono.

Ogni mattina Riccardo visita le nostre piante di pomodori,

impaziente di vedere se sono finalmente diventati rossi, e li ripone nel suo piccolo cestino.

But he says that we can not eat them,

because he wants to keep them for his "collection"!

Ma dice che non li possiamo mangiare, perchè li vuole tenere per la sua "collezione"!

And I begin to breathe serenity.

E comincio a respirare serenità.

A Touch of France - Piazzola Flea Market

Sunday I visited one of the finest flea markets I've ever seen, 

Piazzola sul Brenta. 

Thanks to Mara, who, as lively as ever, had arranged a meeting between bloggers, 

me and the hubby we took the occasion to make a small break, and look for some furniture.

Domenica ho visitato uno dei più bei mercati delle pulci che abbia mai visto, quello di Piazzola sul Brenta. Grazie a Mara, che, vivace come sempre,  aveva organizzato un incontro tra bloggers, io e il maritino abbiamo colto l'occasione per fare un piccolo break, e cercare alcuni mobili.

After many pleasant conversation with Mara and sweet Sara from Perle di cotone blog

(go to visit her and look how sweet her lace jewels are)

and her husband, in a small restaurant with hydrangeas disproportionately huge (what a envy!!!) 

we toured the streets of Piazzola.

Dopo tante piacevoli chiacchiere con Mara e la dolce Sara del blog Perle di cotone 

(andate a vedere quanto sono belli i suoi gioielli di pizzo)

e suo marito, in un piccolo ristorante con ortensie spropositatamente enormi (quanto le ho invidiate!) via per le strade di Piazzola.

The market is really stunning, very spacious and chock-full of interesting things. 

You can find just about anything, vintage items, beautiful ethnic things

And a little bit of France ...

Il mercatino è davvero bellissimo, molto ampio e pieno zeppo di cose interessanti. Si può trovare veramente di tutto, oggetti vintage, etnici di gran gusto

E anche un pizzico di Francia... 

(wow!)

 That chandelier ...!

Quel lampadario...!

Opposite the market square is the splendid Villa Contarini with its Italian garden. 

Antistante alla piazza del mercato  c'è la splendida Villa Contarini col suo giardino all'italiana. 

The market is very nice also because the town of Piazzola is really delicious.

Small, but culturally lively and channels that meander inside of great charm.

Il mercato è molto bello anche perchè la cittadina di Piazzola è davvero deliziosa.

Piccola, ma culturalmente vivacissima  e con canali che si snodano al suo interno di grande fascino.

E poi, che sorpresa, ho ritrovato la simpaticissima Gabriela Kovacova, con le sue magnifiche tele e sacchi di grano splendidi.

We tried to resist to the last temptation (too many!), but towards the end of the visit we sold, 

and bought an old enameled iron sink from outside, 

and we left eyes on this table. In the kitchen would look so good!

Abbiamo cercato di resistere fino all'ultimo alle tentazioni (troppe!!), ma verso la fine della visita abbiamo ceduto, e acquistato un vecchio lavandino di ferro smaltato da esterno, 

e abbiamo lasciato gli occhi su questo tavolo. In cucina starebbe così bene!

Thanks guys for the pleasant company, and thanks again to you dear Mara, 

for letting us discover these gems!

PS. the market is held every last Sunday of the month, all the year without interruption.

Chandeliers - DIY

Dear friends it's a little that I don't update on the evolution of our house.
The works however, go ahead and short, I hope, we will see the end of the restructuring.
Meanwhile, last week, taking advantage of the children for a few days, 

I worked on the arrangement of some crystal chandelier
(my passion!).

Cari amici è da un po' che non vi aggiorno sulle evoluzioni della nostra casa. 
I lavori però vanno avanti e a breve, almeno spero, vedremo la fine della ristrutturazione.
Nel frattempo la scorsa settimana, approfittando dell'assenza per qualche giorno dei bambini, 

ho lavorato sulla sistemazione di qualche lampadario di cristallo
(la mia passione!).

I had a couple of those chandeliers that we often have inherited from grandmothers or aunts, 

or found in flea markets for a few Euro.

Avevo un paio di quei lampadari che spesso ci troviamo per le mani in eredità da nonne o zie, o che si trovano nei mercatini dell'usato per pochi Euro.

I stripped all the crystals they had, and I put them to soak in water with dish soap and a drop of ammonia. Then rinsed and dried well they returned to their former glory

Ho smontato tutti i cristalli che avevano, e li ho messi in ammollo in acqua con sapone per piatti e un goccio di ammoniaca. Poi sciacquati ed asciugati per bene sono tornati al loro splendore

Two light coats of pale cream spray paint  showed patterns and shapes.

I used the spray paint that is used for the radiators, it is mat and has a perfect grip on the metal

Due mani leggere di vernice spray color crema chiaro 

hanno messo in evidenza  decori e le forme.

Io ho utilizzato la vernice spray che si usa per i termosifoni, non è lucida e ha una perfetta presa sul metallo, acquistata da Leroy&Merlin.

The crystals I had were enough, and I reassembled them with the help of tweezers.

I cristalli che avevo erano sufficienti, e li ho quindi rimontati con l'aiuto di una pinzetta

a punte coniche.

Midsummer

I open wide the windows to the scent of lindens and music

I'm always grateful to those who make music in the street

Spalanco le finestre al profumo dei tigli e alla musica

Sono sempre grata a chi fa musica in strada

In the northern Countries today it's Midsummer day's feast

and I decided that from this year in our house we'll celebrate the First day of Summer

Nei paesi nordici oggi si festeggia  il giorno di mezza estate (Midsommar)

e ho deciso che da quest'anno anche in casa nostra si festeggerà il primo giorno d'Estate
